Volunteering with NEEM Humanitarian in India
Mikelle Kap - I had the opportunity to volunteer last week with NEEM which stands for Nutrition Education Ending Malnutrion. It was amazing to see the education that I take for granted in my life! Simple things such as properly washing your hands to how often you should be breastfeeding your baby were things that we were asked and taught. We taught many mothers how to include the five food groups when feeding your babies. We were working largely with a group of women from India who are now trying to navigate the world of processed foods. It made me appreciate so much how fortunate we all are with this basic knowledge of nutrition and hygiene. Something that is so common knowledge to us is brand new information to people from another country who didn’t supply them with this education. During this time we took turns working with these mothers children teaching them basic English. They caught on quickly and it was amazing! I am excited to continue to work with this group of women and help them improve the life of themselves and their families.
